Overwatch – New Map, Animated Short, and D.Va Skin

At this years Gamescom, we got some fantastic new announcements from the Overwatch team. Not only did we get a new animated short as predicted, but with it came a new map and skin! What makes these even cooler is how they all connect. Since the new map is a control point, it comes with three different parts to it. One of the maps is the MEKA base where the animated short takes place, with a few little easter eggs referencing it.

Overwatch New Map – Busan

Busan Sanctuary

The Sanctuary section of Busan is easily the prettiest of the three. This map features beautiful trees and temples, as well as some lovely tiger statues guarding the entrance to various parts of the map. Behind one of the spawns you can see the back of the MEKA base- another map in the trio. Check out screenshots of Busan Sanctuary below!

Busan MEKA Base

The second map in this small series is where D.Va and her teammates live and work. Featuring a huge open area over the point, this is a great sniping map, and low ceilings make it super easy for Hammond to reposition himself. Another cool thing about this map are the moving walls on each edge of the objective, a mechanic we’ve never seen in a map before. Here it is:

Busan Downtown

Downtown explores the urban side of Busan, featuring karaoke bars, an arcade, and even a working DDR machine! The buildings each sport bright, flashy ads, showing off the latest in food, drink, and movies. A couple of them have roofs you can stand on, making for excellent sniping perches, with one roof even including a huge inflatable cow (new hero revealed?). Personally, this is my favourite map of the three, and I can’t wait for it to hit the live servers.

Overwatch – New Animated Short

Overwatch’s highly anticipated new short was released on the same day as the map announcement, this time centred around D.Va and her life in Korea. We also see her friend Daehyun, who’s an engineer (I think) in the MEKA team. Check it out below!

Overwatch – New D.Va Skin

At the very end of the short, we also get a look at an in game render of what looks like a brand new D.Va skin. Judging by the aesthetic, it looks like an Epic rather than a Legendary, purely because it looks like a recolour of the classic. However, that’s not to say it doesn’t look awesome- I can’t wait to fly around Busan looking like a can of Mountain Dew.

Overwatch: New Skins, Map, and More

Blizzard just released their latest cosmetics update to Overwatch yesterday, and oh boy, is it something! Not only does it introduce 18 new skins (12 of them legendary!) but it adds 4 new emotes, 4 incredible highlight intros, and a spray for every single hero in the game to date. Oh, and a new map. Let’s get into it!

New Map: Blizzard World

Blizzard World has been a work in progress for a while, announced last November at BlizzCon. It pulls inspiration from all of Blizzard’s games, including StarCraft, Hearthstone, and Heroes of the Storm.

It’s a hybrid map, meaning you’ve got to take a point, and then push the payload to the end, like King’s Row and Numbani.

Overall, it looks incredible, and is easily our favourite map to date. Don’t take our word for it though; take a look at the pictures below and let us know what you think in the comments!

New Skins

If you thought the new map was amazing, you won’t believe this next part. Along with Blizzard World came 18 new skins, with 12 of them being legendary! Check out the slideshow below to see them in all their glory.

EPIC:

New Sprays

What’s that? There aren’t enough sprays in the game? Well, it’s your lucky day, because every hero just received an adorable personalised spray based off one of their skins! They were made by Chie Boyd (@tinysnails on twitter), and they look fantastic. Here they are:

New Player Icons

All right, this one’s less exciting, but it’s still pretty cool! They’re basically much cuter versions of the regular hero icons, and although they’re a rather small part of the update, we’re glad they’re here!

New Emotes

This update, Genji, Tracer, Mercy, Moira, and Sombra each get a new emote. They all look fantastic, especially Genji’s, Sombra’s and Tracer’s. Hey, the more DPS you are, the cooler the emote is!

New Highlight Intros

Another smaller part of the update were the four new highlight intros unveiled for Ana, Bastion, Soldier and Winston. These intros look way more cinematic and are much higher quality than anything we’ve seen before! Hopefully this is a new trend for the highlight intros, and we’ll get even more like these in the future.
