Overwatch: New Skins, Map, and More

Blizzard just released their latest cosmetics update to Overwatch yesterday, and oh boy, is it something! Not only does it introduce 18 new skins (12 of them legendary!) but it adds 4 new emotes, 4 incredible highlight intros, and a spray for every single hero in the game to date. Oh, and a new map. Let’s get into it!

New Map: Blizzard World

Blizzard World has been a work in progress for a while, announced last November at BlizzCon. It pulls inspiration from all of Blizzard’s games, including StarCraft, Hearthstone, and Heroes of the Storm.

It’s a hybrid map, meaning you’ve got to take a point, and then push the payload to the end, like King’s Row and Numbani.

Overall, it looks incredible, and is easily our favourite map to date. Don’t take our word for it though; take a look at the pictures below and let us know what you think in the comments!

New Skins

If you thought the new map was amazing, you won’t believe this next part. Along with Blizzard World came 18 new skins, with 12 of them being legendary! Check out the slideshow below to see them in all their glory.

New Sprays

What’s that? There aren’t enough sprays in the game? Well, it’s your lucky day, because every hero just received an adorable personalised spray based off one of their skins! They were made by Chie Boyd (@tinysnails on twitter) Here they are:

New Player Icons

All right, this one’s less exciting, but it’s still pretty cool! They’re basically much cuter versions of the regular hero icons, and although they’re a rather small part of the update, we’re glad they’re here!

New Emotes

This update, Genji, Tracer, Mercy, Moira, and Sombra each get a new emote. They all look fantastic, especially Genji’s, Sombra’s and Tracer’s. Hey, the more DPS you are, the cooler the emote is!

New Highlight Intros

Another smaller part of the update were the four new highlight intros unveiled for Ana, Bastion, Soldier and Winston. These intros look way more cinematic and are much higher quality than anything we’ve seen before! Hopefully this is a new trend for the highlight intros, and we’ll get even more like these in the future.

Overwatch Winter Wonderland 2017: What’s New

Overwatch’s annual winter update was released the other day, along with 7 legendary skins a new game mode, and a winterified map! But what exactly do you have to look forward to this year? Find out what’s in Overwatch Winter Wonderland 2017.

Overwatch Winter Wonderland 2017: Skins

Alpine: 76

soldier winter skin

Soldier’s latest skin is quite possibly the best skin released for him so far! The gun looks sleek and the style is fantastic. Overwatch Winter Wonderland 2017 is off to a good start!

Snow Owl

ana winter skin

Ana’s Snow Owl skin. What can we say about it that hasn’t already been said? It’s a brilliant cosmetic, fitting perfectly with the rest of the Overwatch Winter Skin Squad!

sombra winter skin

Sombra’s ice blue Rime skin is the most supernatural of this years batch, with pointy ears and frosty smoke coming off her. Looks pretty *cool*.

Ice Fisherman

roadhog winter skin

Ice Fisherman, alternatively known as Overwatch’s resident walrus man, is Roadhog’s sweet new skin. It’s an awesome new addition to his roster, as we haven’t seen one for a while!

bastion winter skin

This year, Blizzard has decided to turn Bastion into a snowmobile for the winter event. Or at least, that’s how he looks! The most impressive thing about this skin isn’t any of it’s initial looks though; it’s the fact that in each transformation Bastion goes through, his little winter hat somehow stays on!

hanzo winter skin

Finally, a new Hanzo skin! No, it isn’t exactly like the reflections’ comic’s version, but it’s good enough!

Overwatch Winter Wonderland 2017: Maps

Just like last year, Blizzard has winterified one of their maps! However, it’s not as huge a re-do as last time, instead opting to give Black Forest a winter makeover! Check out some screenshots down below (yes, the GUI is still there. Unfortunately, Blizzard hasn’t added an option to remove it on PS4 yet, but hopefully it’s added soon! Sorry if it ruins the screenshots a little.).

Overwatch Winter Wonderland 2017: Mei’s Yeti Hunt

What’s that? This year for Christmas you’d like a new winter themed game mode featuring everyone’s favourite ice demon and a big ol’ monkey scientist? Well, lucky day! This year came not only with sweet new skins, but a whole new game mode too! The 5v1 brawl consists of 5 Meis and 1 Winston, in a fight to the death. Kill the yeti before he can take out your team’s 5 lives, in Blizzard’s Animal Torture Simulation 2017.

Overwatch Winter Wonderland 2017: Emotes

If you thought this update couldn’t get any better, think again! Blizzard has released another legendary emote, this time for Orisa. Is it adorable? Yes. Is it expensive? Yikes, yes! But is it worth it? Absolutely! And of course, let’s not forget Zen’s new snowflake emote. Even though it’s slightly overshadowed by Orisa’s, it still looks awesome.

We would have uploaded these as video files, but we don’t have videopress (wordpress’ video hosting tool, which you get with one of the plans). If you’d prefer to see them in HD, follow the links below (they open in new tabs)!

Overwatch: Mercy Tactics

Mercy, a.k.a. Dr. Angela Ziegler, is one of Overwatch’s 5 support heroes, and a powerful healer. Via her Caduceus staff, Mercy can either buff or heal allies, making her a valuable component in any team. But how do you play Mercy effectively? What are the best strategies when it comes to healing or buffing? Here are our best tips to become the best Mercy you possibly can be!

Caduceus Staff

The Caduceus Staff is Mercy’s primary tool, used to heal and amplify damage, but how do you put it to it’s best use?

  • Both beams stay connected for 1.4 seconds after breaking line of sight with the tethered ally, so check behind you frequently in case the enemy is trying to flank your team.
  • Change the means of your beam depending on what kind of a situation you’re in, or which hero you’re tethered to. If you’re attached to a tank such as Roadhog, it’s a better move to damage boost them. Not only does Roadhog have self-healing, but he can also do massive amounts of damage, so amplify that to decimate the enemy!
  • When it comes to offense heroes, switch the tether depending on the situation. If they’re low on health or against multiple enemies, top them up, if they’re just one v one against another hero, amplify their damage.
  • When your Hanzo uses Dragonstrike, start amplifying their damage. Even though the dragon had already been shot, it still amplifies it’s damage, and could give the dragon just the damage it needed!
  • If you have a Pharah, focus your attention on them. Make sure to keep flying back to them, and hold down jump to delay your falling. Try and keep damage boost on, unless they’re losing a lot of health. Pharah’s rockets are powerful on their own, with damage boost they’ll obliterate the enemy!
  • Focus on damage boosting heroes ulting, especially Soldier, Reaper and Bastion.

Caduceus Blaster

The Caduceus blaster may seem small and weak, but in the right situations, it can be deadly to the enemy! Here are some tips whilst using it.

  • If separated from your team, switch quickly to your blaster. Don’t engage on your own, but if a one v one situation comes up, the blaster is an effective tool!
  • The blaster is especially useful when it comes to destroying turrets such as Symmetra’s and Torbjorn’s. From far enough away, it’s easy enough to take down one of Torb’s turrets, whilst keeping yourself safe!#
  • Don’t constantly go attack Mercy. At the end of the day Mercy is a healer, so keep the blaster as a last resort.

Guardian Angel

Guardian angel is an ability of Mercy’s that allows her to fly towards an ally, dead or alive. It’s one of her most useful abilities, and when used right, can save your life!

  • Go into options > controls > Mercy, and change the setting “Toggle guardian angel” from On to Off. This means that instead of just hitting your guardian angel key to fly to someone, you have to hold it. Sure, this doesn’t sound too helpful, but if you decide midflight you don’t want to fly to the ally you chose, you can just let go and stop before you get there.
  • Keep an eye out for an allied Pharah. Flying to them whilst they’re airborne gives you both a height advantage and the opportunity to damage boost them.
  • Use guardian angel to get out of trouble. Hear a McCree or Soldier use their ult? Quickly lock onto them and fly away.

Resurrect is arguably Mercy’s most powerful ability, as it can be used to bring allies back from the dead!

  • Rez is on a 30 second timer, and you can only bring back one ally at a time (RIP 5 man rez), so you need to be smart about using it. Save it for when a tank is dead, or you’ve lost someone in the last few seconds of an attack. One person can make all the difference!
  • When you use it, don’t start going attack Mercy. Stay with your team, and keep healing, as they’ll likely still be in a dangerous situation!

Valkyrie [ULTIMATE]

Mercy’s new valkyrie ability pushes her suit to it’s full potential, giving you the ability to fly, heal multiple teammates, and boosts your healing and damage, with infinite ammo to go along with it!

  • Don’t forget about guardian angel! Yes, you can fly in Valkyrie, but not as fast as you can with guardian, so keep your hand over the button; you never know when it could save you.
  • Don’t always go attack Mercy. Yep that’s right. Valkyrie may boost her damage and supply you with infinite ammo, but you still a have teammates to protect. Don’t leave them to die!
  • That being said… sometimes it is wise to go on the offensive. If the opportunity presents itself, go for it! Take out the enemy and get on that objective!
